The Windy Ryon is Back in the Saddle Again!

April 20, 2021 (Saginaw, TX)

For almost five decades, the Windy Ryon Memorial Roping has been one of the most prestigious competitions in equine sports. The event began in 1973 to honor the memory of Don “Windy” Ryon founder of Ryon's Saddle Shop and Western Store in the historic Fort Worth Stockyards - a gathering place for cowboys and ranch and rodeo hands..

The Windy Ryon Roping is as historical as it is entertaining. Each Memorial weekend it showcases the world's top professional rodeo competitors - both men and women, with 3 days of non-stop roping and rodeo action, shopping and fun for all ages. More than 20 World Champion cowboys and cowgirls are among the competitors. A lucrative Tie Down Roping Match on Saturday features World Champion Haven Meged against 2 time World Champion Caleb Smidt.

The Windy Ryon Memorial Roping Association is a group of dedicated volunteers who have proudly committed their efforts and profits to charities, and has contributed one million dollars to various organizations that benefit young men and women involved in Agriculture. These scholarships encourage the next generation to strengthen American agriculture and provide leadership to build healthy local communities, a strong nation and a sustainable world. 4-H and FFA members work alongside the Windy Ryon volunteers to make sure the competition moves along smoothly.

Enjoy the fast paced excitement of championship calf roping, steer roping, steer wrestling, and team roping. There's even ladies team roping and calf roping, a celebrity washer pitch tournament and unique western shopping. It all takes place at the Windy Ryon Arena Friday May 28 thru Sunday, May 30 in Saginaw just north of the Fort Worth Stockyards.
